Sinead O'Connor - Universal Mother (1994)

Sinead O'Connor - Universal Mother pt1

Sinead O'Connor -Universal Mother pt3

Universal Mother is in my top5. It´s different than other Sinead's albums. More intimate, more sad... almost depressive. I've listened to it on repeat program in my darkest hour. I've seen her performing these songs live.. and she took the essence of her music to absolutely different enviroment. She was singing it with shiny face.

I'll be glad if you let me know your opinion about this album. I think that Universal Mother is so exceptional, but basicly... that album was absolutely overlooked.

Serge Gainsbourg - Histoire de Melody Nelson (1971)

Serge Gainsbourg - Histoire de Melody Nelson

Melody is Gainsbourg's concept album. The Lolita-esque pseudo-autobiographical plot involves the middle-aged Gainsbourg unintentionally colliding his 260-horsepower Rolls Royce into teenage nymphet Melody Nelson's bicycle, and the subsequent seduction and romance that ensues. Histoire de Melody Nelson is considered by many critics and fans to be Gainsbourg's most influential and accomplished album.
At just under twenty-eight minutes, the short running time and the stylistic consistency and similarity throughout the album gives it qualities more in line with an EP or an extended musical piece with a number of movements. Histoire de Melody Nelson‘s mix of freewheeling guitar, funk style bass guitar, near spoken word vocal delivery, and lush, deep orchestrated string and choral arrangements by Jean-Claude Vannier have proven to be highly influential amongst later francophone and anglophone musical performers including the French band Air, David Holmes, Pulp's Jarvis Cocker and Beck, whose 2002 track "Paper Tiger" from Sea Change is extremely close to the distinctive Histoire de Melody Nelson sound.

Cat Power - The Greatest (2006)

Cat Power - The Greatest

Chan Marshall's (aka Cat Power) music is so melancholic. I listen to her album a lot, almost every night. Can't help myself, but I think that she sounds like a shy person, absolutely not self-confident. She is not singing as a "poor girl", but there's something in her voice - fragile. On my way to work I play "Lived in Bars", that's my favourite.

Bonnie Prince Billy - The Letting Go (2006)

Bonnie Prince Billy - The Letting Go

"When the numbers get too high/Of the dead pan flying to the sky/Oh I don't know why/Love comes too me."

Will Oldham's The Letting Go was recorded in Reykjavik with Bjork's engineer, string quartet and singer Dawn McCarthy. She is one of the highlights of the album, her voice is so cold and not from this place/time like.
Will wrote a song called "I See The Darkness", which became famous after Johnny Cash sang it on his album.
Will wrote a song called "You Have Cum in Your Hair and Your Cock is Hanging Out", which is not in J.Cash repertoire.

Serge Gainsbourg - Initials SG (2003)

Serge Gainsbourg - Initials SG pt1
Serge Gainsbourg - Initials SG pt2

Considering his appeal spanned several generations, fans approach the work of Serge Gainsbourg from a multitude of angles. Initials S.G. is the first widely available, single-disc compilation that treats his career as an artist and influence, not just a hitmaker. And with an entirely new audience of twenty-somethings attracted to his devilish grin and simmering productions, the time was certainly ripe for this "Ultimate Best Of." Boasting 23 tracks and spanning the years 1958 to 1980, Initials S.G. is the disc necessary for anyone who wants to know why artists from Jarvis Cocker to Beck to David Holmes to Momus have seized on his recordings. Previous collections, especially American releases, were overly focused on single time periods (with all the accumulating dross) and often made little attempt to help listeners decide which era they preferred. It's all laid out here, ranging from the brisk postwar jazz-pop of 1964's "Couleur Cafe" to the stoned funk pornography of 1971's "Ballade de Melody Nelson" -- only seven years apart technically, but separated by a vast cultural gulf that could be Johnny Mathis and Johnnie Taylor in comparison. Gainsbourg's power to fascinate later generations is especially powerful on the spare, funky soundtrack feature "Requiem Pour une C..."; the infamous "Je T'Aime...Moi Non Plus," a 1969 chart entry featuring the orgasmic vocal caressing of Jane Birkin; and an ace throwaway of yeh-yeh pop called "Bonnie and Clyde," featuring Brigitte Bardot. (The disc unfortunately brushes over "Lemon Incest," the source of his wildest controversy, a song on which Gainsbourg crooned with his daughter Charlotte, and in bed with her for the video.) The only buyer-beware caution necessary for Initials S.G. is that most purchasers will soon find themselves buying imports of original LP masterpieces like 1971's Histoire de Melody Nelson or 1969's Serge Gainsbourg & Jane Birkin.

Efterklang - Tripper (2004)

Efterklang - Tripper

Efterklang is Danish post-rock group. The group consists of five core members and a sixth member who makes films for their songs. Tripper is not about songs, i think... it's about sounds a emotions, so... loads of strings arrangements and click-fuck-cuts are on it. Cold arses.

Yeah Yeah Yeahs - Fever to Tell

Yeah Yeah Yeahs - Show Your Bones

Fever to Tell is pretty wild. Show Your Bones is more refined, like pop with hc guitars. I like Karen O voice, she reminds me PJ Harvey.

Peter Björn and John - Writer's Block (2006)

Peter Björn and John - Writer's Block

This 3piece swedish band is highly infectious. Their song "Young Folks" is out as a single, good clip is rotating and i hope that they'll be famous.. one day. Young Folks is a duet actually, Victoria Bergsman sings on it. Her voice is... uhhmm.. shagadelic. I love that moment when she started to sing... " i did before and had my share....." so beautiful. Ok, there it is..

Young Folks
if i told you things i did before told you how i used to be would you go along with someone like me if you knew my story word for word had all of my history would you go along with someone like me
i did before and had my shareit didn't lead nowhere i would go along with someone like you it doesn't matter what you did who you were hanging with we could stick around and see this night through
and we don't care about the young folks talkin' bout the young style and we don't care about the old folks talkin' 'bout the old style too and we don't care about their own faults talkin' 'bout our own style all we care 'bout is talking talking only me and you
usually when things has gone this far people tend to disappear no-one will surprise me unless you do
i can tell there's something goin' on hours seems to disappear everyone is leaving i'm still with you
it doesn't matter what we do where we are going to we can stick around and see this night through
and we don't care about the young folks talkin' bout the young style and we don't care about the old folks talkin' 'bout the old style too and we don't care about their own faults talkin' 'bout our own style all we care 'bout is talking talking only me and you
and we don't care about the young folks talkin' bout the young style and we don't care about the old folks talkin' 'bout the old style too and we don't care about their own faults talkin' 'bout our own style all we care 'bout is talking talking only me and you talking only me and you
